The tundra
vista and the land are like a rocky beach, the rolling hills like sand
dunes, with no trees or other major vertical obstructions. You can drive
without really dedicating all of your consciousness to it.
Once
you have some experience the proper approach to the lumps and bumps
can be nearly without thought, although there are some areas with more
difficult hummocks of peat and grass standing up in hollows of sunken
bog. A rough terrain, it doesnt have to be dangerous if you can
find the balance between relaxation and alertness.
Gritting
my teeth against the jolts as we attacked the trail to the Diane River
(a formidable path in summer but, hopefully better now) I felt sure
the trip would still have its rough surprises.
